We still had Desert Parks Passes from our previous crossing, west to east, in June 2021, but as the trip date approached there seemed to be a lot more rain than normal. Roads were closed throughout the north of South Australia, Queensland had floods and people were stranded in a number of places. A Simpson crossing looked very risky and an alternate plan was needed.
