Unveiling BMW’s latest innovation, the R 1300 GS, the German automaker officially discusses its flagship touring and adventure motorcycle, tying in the launch with the brand’s 100th-anniversary celebration and marking the production of its one-millionth ‘boxer’ engine.

Last week though, BMW took the step of officially discussing the new flagship touring and adventure machine, the first time it has done so since the first spy shots landed.

BMW R 1300 GS officially confirmed

The press release from Beemer confirms that the world will get to see the new model and learn about its specs, features and innovation on September 28th, when the German marque opens the door to its new BMW Motorrad Welt (World) in Berlin.

The introduction of the new model is timed nicely for the brand, tying in nicely to the firm’s 100th-anniversary celebrations, and also in the same year that its one millionth ‘boxer’ configuration engine was produced. The engine rolled off the production line earlier this month and now resides in an R 1250 GS Triple Black edition machine.

Both these milestones will be celebrated later this year, and the bike that started it all, the R 80 G/S will likely be playing a central role.

For those unable to make the trip to the event, fans can follow the unveiling via a livestream on the BMW Motorrad social media channels. Following this, the newly constructed visitor centre, located next door to the Berlin manufacturing plant, will swing open its doors to the public on the 30th of September 2023.
