Tora Bora was only a short trip, but it was worth doing for two reasons: first, the sheer audacity of our intended destination – the former stomping ground of Osama bin Laden; and second, we had two Afghan riders with us for the first time.
Locals did accompany us on weekend rides, but not on trips outside the ‘safety net’ of Kabul.
