Ducati Desert Sled

0

We’re being a bit mischievous with the title. There is a model designated ‘Desert Sled’ on its way from Ducati apparently, but it’s a Scrambler derivative.

Motorcycle-magazine.com is reporting: “Ducati is to launch a Scrambler DS and Scambler CR for 2017. Now it’s clear that DS stands for Desert Sled and CR for Café Racer.

“A bracer of new teaser videos from the firm reveal the bikes’ names, but little else. Ducati had already dropped hints at Intermot in Cologne that the bikes were coming, with a stand featuring a mock-up of a 1960s café and a desert scene, but no bikes on them.

“The emissions documents for the bikes have revealed that they’re largely the same as the normal 803cc Scrambler. They share the same engine and are close enough in spec to be certified on the same document as the normal bike.

“Spy pictures of the Desert Sled – which we previously expected to be called ‘Dual Sport’ – revealed a bike with more luggage capacity and taller suspension than the normal Scrambler. It also appeared to be restyled to look more modern, with a 1970s feel rather than the original’s 1960s inspiration. For instance, the seat appeared to be trimmed in yellow vinyl.

“The video for the Desert Sled doesn’t show much of the bike other than a glimpse of a headlight with a protective grille over it. The rider’s Bell helmet, however, seems to support the late-1970s or early 1980s feel.

“Both bikes will appear at the EICMA show in Milan next month, and in the meantime it will be no surprise if Ducati releases a bombardment of teaser videos revealing more details of the machines.”

Excellent. A bombardment of teaser videos sounds good to us!

So does an off-road capable 803cc Ducati with the horn looks of the Scrambler.

Fingers crossed.
