Farewell Ted Goddard

Farewell Ted Goddard

This entry is part 182 of 321 in the series Adventure Rider Issue #1

It was with huge sadness we learned of the death of Ted Goddard on December 30, 2018, at the age of 82.

Ted was enormously influential in shaping Australian off-road racing and riders during this country’s formative years in the sport, and was himself a keen, internationally successful competitor.

Ted was probably best-known as the inventor of Barkbusters handguards, but very few Australian off-road riders of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s won’t have had some contact with, and owe some debt to, Ted Goddard.

Thanks to current Barkbusters owner Matt Philpott for this pic of Ted (right) with his son Peter at the 30th anniversary celebrations for Barkbusters in 2014.

It’s a sad loss to the entire Australian off-road riding community.
