Spectacular South Africa | 8 – 27 October 2019

Roughly the size of Spain and France combined, South Africa is vibrant, it’s captivating, it’s breathtaking and spectacular. A vast country renowned for its natural diversity, unsurpassed wildlife, rich history and culture, there is something here for everyone. With its dramatic landscapes, sun-soaked coasts and magical mountain passes it is a bike riders dream. Our amazing three week motorcycle safari of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland is running this October so c’mon join us for some exhilarating adventure on two wheels this Spring!

Starting in Cape Town we’ll take a fascinating half day tour of Robben Island, where  Nelson Mandela was incarcerated and enjoy the 360 degree panoramic views from Table Mountain before heading south to the rugged Cape of Good Hope. From here it’s even further south to the southernmost tip of Africa then we strike east along the coast of the Indian Ocean to join the famous ‘Garden Route’; along the way crossing some of the impressive mountain passes of the Karoo!

Through the vast interior, we traverse the remarkable and remote land-locked nations of Lesotho and Swaziland, to arrive at Kruger National Park where we enjoy once in a lifetime wildlife encounters on our early morning game drive! Then it’s time to conclude the adventure in Johannesburg with a unique half day tour to Soweto … and try to convince you to hand back the keys of your BMW!

Tour Highlight
Kruger National Park is a favourite inclusion in the itinerary. Covering an area of 19,485 km² it is one of the largest and best known game reserves in Africa and home to hundreds of mammals and diverse bird species. Our visit here allows the chance to see the ‘big 5’ (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) amongst many other wonderful encounters, when we enjoy a safari through the park at dawn, experiencing the animals up close and personal. The park also offers incredible landscapes from mountains, vast plains and tropical forests. It is an unforgettable life experience!

Fine Wine
Located just outside of Cape Town is the famous coastal wine region of Stellenbosch, with a history dating back to the 1600’s.  It is now home to more than 22 different wineries, so sampling some of the fabulous wines on offer is a must!

Before we jump on the bikes, we kick off the tour with a half day visit to the region and its wineries and enjoy one of those lovely long leisurely lunches together.  If cabernet sauvignon is your varietal of choice, then you’re in luck as this is the most widely planted grape variety in the region … if not there will be many other excellent wines to also enjoy, including South Africa’s delicious signature wine – pinotage.

Hitgeheim Country Lodge and Eco-Reserve
We stay in some magical accommodation on our Spectacular South Africa safari and Hitgeheim Country Lodge, situated on an eco-reserve in the heart of the Sundays River Valley Addo area, is one of the best! Located only minutes from the Addo Elephant National Park, the third largest national park in South Africa, it’s time to swap the motorcycle for a safari jeep!

The Lodge provides stylishly furnished chalets with luxurious bathrooms, and all rooms have wooden decks with breathtaking views over citrus orchards and the sweeping countryside. Here we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool, or sundowners on the veranda before sitting down to a gourmet dinner and experience true South African hospitality at its best.

One of WOW’s great rides with so much to see and do. The roads are fantastic, the Garden Route is a leisurely introduction to excellent hotels, great food and lovely people. The 120 KPH speed limit is welcome on some of the longer days and the BMW’s are well up to the task of getting you to Swaziland, The Kruger National Park and the many other highlights quickly and safely. You will arrive in Jo’burg and feel like turning around and doing it all again backwards. That’s the sign of a great ride.”
