He’s the man behind the Adventure Challenge website! It’s

Richard Morwood

Q. Where are you based, Richard?
A. Penrith, NSW.

Q. What’s your age?
A. 29.

Q. Are you registered on the AdvRiderMagforum? If so, what’s your name-thing?
A. I am, and my username is ‘Dragick’.

Q. What bike do you ride?
A. A 2012 Triumph Explorer that I’ve named ‘Maximus’. I absolutely love it. I don’t think I would’ve wanted to be on anything else on the Snowy Ride last November.

Q. Maximus…riiiiight. What’s the best ride you’ve ever done?
A. The Snowy Ride!I met up with two guys from the forum – Craig Humble and Justin Glohe. I’ve never ridden so fast as when I was riding with Craig!

Q. What’s your favourite place to ride?
A. That would be anywhere near the lower Blue Mountains area. The scenery’s always beautiful and it’s incredibly close to home.

Q. What do you like most about the mag?
A. Karen Ramsay’s articles. They’re always funny. She’s not a super-duper pro, but she gets out there and gives it a go, and that encourages me to do the same thing.

Q. What’s something that really peeves you on a ride?
A. When I’m riding sweep and I drop my bike, and then I have to wait for someone else to come back and help me pick it up. That’s always embarrassing.

Q. Are you all techie an’ that? Do you really know about computers?
A. I work in business intelligence as a data warehouse developer, and I do a lot of web analytics. But I absolutely am a techie-man.

Q. Can you figure out the menu on a fully optioned R1200GSA?
A. Mate! If I can turn off the traction control on a Triumph Explorer, I can figure out anyone’s menu.

Q. Have you ever tried to figure out the menu on an R1200GSA?
A. Have you ever tried to turn off the traction control on an Explorer?

Q. We’ll ask the questions, thanks. What’s your best tip for avoiding monkey butt?
A. Get wider footpegs so you can stand up a lot, even on the tarmac. As a bonus, traffic lights can be a great spot to practice your slow-speed control.

Q. You built the Adventure Challenge website. How many destinations did you get in 2014?
A. You know what? I planned six trips this year to try and visit at least one Adventure Challenge destination on each trip, and every time I got snubbed out by the big, giant storm that came along.

Q. So is the answer ‘zero’?
A. The answer is zero.

Q. Is the Adventure Challenge on again in 2015?
A. It is. As we’re talking right now, the discussion is around opening it up to everybody. I hope it’s much easier in 2015, and I hope a lot more people get involved. The idea will be that anyone who finds a nice spot can submit the location so others can visit.Once we get it all set up, the riders will just log on to the website and enter the GPS co-ordinates and post the pic of themselves with a mag or logo, and a brief description of the location. Everyone will be able to manage themselves from there. We’ll have a few admin users as trouble-shooters and helpers, but it should be predominantly user-driven, I imagine.

Q. How many destinations will you definitely get to this year?
A. Um…that’s a really hard question. I’d really like to get at least six, but my wife’s about to have a baby. I have no idea what life has in store for me after I introduce a daughter to the world.

Q. Do you have an app to come up with excuses like those?
A. (Laughing) No.
